Model Milk is located near the end of the busy 17th Avenue, ranked #19 on Canada's Top 100 Best Restaurant. I have been to MM on several occasions from a normal night to Sunday Suppers (once my friend and I ordered EVERYTHING on the dessert menu NBD). My favourite is the Sunday Suppers nights where you get a tasting menu for $40. It rotates weekly and the menu is posted online!
For Big Taste, they have a $35 three course dinner offering. If you are a stranger to Big Taste, 95+ restaurants participate in creating menus at four different price points ($15/$25/$35/$65).
Tip: make a reservation through Opentable, then call the restaurant and ask for the kitchen bar! You will see all the action of the chefs making food.
For the first course, appetizer, it was a choice of the Calamari Fricasse or Wagyu Tartare.
The Calamari Fricasse had tender pieces of calamari and freshness of lemon juice, it was a good way to start the meal! The Wagyu Tartare was cut the right size and super tender. Salty, crunchy and full with cardamon flavour, this was definitely unique.
For the entree, it was a choice of Beef Cheek or Fried Chicken. The Beef Cheek was extremely tender and gelatinous. However, I thought it lacked something fresh to brighten up the dish. The other choice was Model Milk's Fried Chicken. Seeing it's popularity online, I was excited to try it! They formed a gigantic drumstick and deep fried it to perfection. The chicken was juicy and the batter was a little spicy.
To finish, it was a big cream puff filled with freshly whipped sweet cream. Crispy and crunchy exterior, it was the perfect way to end the meal.
Overall I had a great experience at Model Milk and will definitely be back again!
